The Florida Panther (Puma concolor coryi) is a subspecies of cougar adapted to Florida's subtropical environment. Before 2008, these carnivores were on the critically endangered species list after having once prowled across all the southeastern states. The panther requires contiguous areas of habitat – each breeding unit, consisting of one male and two to five females, requires about 200 square miles. Today the estimated 230 individual cats are only found in South Florida. Despite ongoing conflicts, in recent years scientific management has led to a comeback. We urge you to learn more about this unique species!
