Modern Snipe Pair in Flight

19 x 12.5 x 10 inches

The Wilson's Snipe are found around wetlands, banks and marsh areas in most of the United States. This little plump birds can actually fly up to 60mph. Their speed along with their zig zag flight pattern make them a difficult target to hit. This is why the nickname in the 1770s for those known to hunt snipe well was a "sniper" hence the term we now use for someone that is a good shot with a gun.
