The Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta) is the most common sea turtle in the United States. Adults can grow to 250 lbs and 3 ft. in length. Loggerheads have remained on the "threatened" species list under US Federal protection since 1978 while they are listed as "endangered" internationally. 
     
     The Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) is an "endangered" species. These are the largest sea turtles, growing up to 7 ft. in length and weighing up to 2,000 lbs. 

In the summer of 2016, while fishing with my son off the coast of Stuart, FL I witnessed a group of leatherback hatchlings make their maiden voyage into the ocean. Having witnessed this extraordinary moment, I was immediately motivated to sculpt the hatchlings.
