Terns can be found on beaches all over the beaches in South Florida. I enjoy watching them when I visit the beach. They are known to be social birds and tend to gather with each other on the sand. I wanted to capture these beautiful terns on the beach at on the north end of Jupiter Island.
Before I create a work of art, whether that be a sculpture or painting, I spend time out in the field observing my subject (s). Before I started to sculpt a tern, I watched how they interacted with their environment on the beach. I took photographs for reference as well as videos. Eventually, I come up with an idea of how I want to represent my subject, in this case the tern, and begin sculpting.
