Sculpture Spotlight: Life-Size Heron Duet Bronze
This week's sculpture is Heron Duet, a classic bronze depicting a life-size pair of herons in a quiet, balanced composition. Designed to live comfortably indoors or outdoors, the sculpture captures the natural grace and relationship between the two birds as they share a single moment in time.
Herons are commonly found throughout Florida's wetlands and waterways and are known for their patience and deliberate movement. Often seen returning to the same nesting and feeding areas year after year, they embody a strong sense of connection to place. In addition to the life-size herons, we have a much smaller maquette as well!

Behind the Craft: Custom Bronze Sculptures
It is always a humbling moment when a client arrives with a vision for a custom sculpture. That feeling deepens when the work is destined for a public space where it will be encountered, lived with, and appreciated for generations.
Pictured above are early clay maquettes for the Great Blue Heron Duet. At this stage, multiple compositions are explored as Geoffrey works through balance, gesture, and the relationship between the birds. Once a final composition is selected, the sculpture is developed at full scale. The finished herons are life-size, poised in their nest, and prepared to settle into their new home.
Field Observation & Wildlife Inspiration
Anyone who has met Geoffrey or spent time at the studio knows that his work doesn't begin indoors. Long hours are spent in wetlands and wooded areas, observing and photographing birds in their natural habitats.
These field experiences are essential. They allow him to study posture, movement, and interaction, which are the subtle details that inform the final sculpture. Time spent watching how birds relate to one another brings an authenticity to the work that can only come from patience and presence in nature.
That time in the field is visible in every finished piece.
